Green tea has been tossed around by various health experts with varying claims. Sometimes, green tea is touted as a remedy for weight loss that works, at others it is that bluff you must not fall for. What is the truth about green tea?

A study published in March 2019 by the Ohio State University claimed that Green tea cut obesity and a number of inflammatory biomarkers linked with poor health in a new study, as published in Science Daily.

Learnings from the mice and green tea study:

The benefits seen in the new study, published in the Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry, appear to stem from improved gut health, including more beneficial microbes in the intestines of the mice and less permeability in the intestinal wall -- a condition typically called "leaky gut" in people.

"This study provides evidence that green tea encourages the growth of good gut bacteria, and that leads to a series of benefits that significantly lower the risk of obesity," said Richard Bruno, the study's lead author and a professor of human nutrition at The Ohio State University.

Does Green Tea reduce the chances of obesity?

For eight weeks, half of the animals ate a high-fat diet designed to lead to obesity and half were fed a regular diet. In each of those groups, half ate green tea extract mixed in with their food. Then the researchers measured body and fat tissue weight, insulin resistance and other factors.

The mice fed a high-fat diet supplemented with green tea gained about 20 per cent less weight and had lower insulin resistance than mice fed an otherwise identical diet without tea.

Those mice also had less inflammation within fat tissue and the intestine. Furthermore, the green tea appeared to protect against the movement of endotoxin, the toxic bacterial component, out of their guts and into the bloodstream.

Plus, the researchers found evidence of stronger -- less "leaky" -- guts in these mice.

The researchers also found that the green tea appeared to contribute to a healthier microbial community in the guts of the mice fed a high-fat diet.

Bruno is currently working on a human study that will explore the effects of green tea on the leaky gut in people with metabolic syndrome -- a condition that predisposes people to Type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

For now, he said, it's too soon to extrapolate the findings in animals to people.

Green Tea: How and how much should one drink?

One cannot start consuming green tea like water, warn experts. Ohio Universitys experts caution that -- should the benefits prove true in humans -- green tea supplements would not be an obvious substitute for drinking the beverage over the course of a day, because of how the body metabolizes the catechins in the tea.

"Consuming a little throughout the course of a day with food -- like the mice did in this study -- might be better," Bruno said.

Another study by Penn University:

An earlier study published by the Penn State University on April 02, 2014, had shown that Mice on a high-fat diet that consumed decaffeinated green tea extract and exercised regularly experienced sharp reductions in final body weight and significant improvements in health, according to researchers in Penn State's College of Agricultural Sciences, who suggest that similar results could be realized by people.

Obesity and Diabetes (Blood Sugar) markers in Mice:

After 16 weeks, high-fat-fed mice that exercised regularly and ingested green tea extract showed an average body mass reduction of 27.1 per cent and an average abdominal fat mass reduction of 36.6 per cent.

The mice that ingested the green-tea-extract-and-exercise regimen also experienced a 17 per cent reduction in fasting blood glucose level, a 65 per cent decrease in plasma insulin level and a reduction in the insulin resistance of 65 per cent -- all substantial improvements related to diabetic health.

Mice that consumed green tea extract but did not exercise or those that exercised but were not given green tea extract experienced less significant changes in weight and health measurements, noted lead researcher Joshua Lambert, associate professor of food science.

But Professor Lambert has made no claims of having proof yet that one can say with certainty that combining green tea drinking and exercise may well help people -- like mice -- lose weight. He says research is yet to be done with humans, and until then there is no way to be certain.

"It looks promising for people, but somebody will have to do this experiment with people to definitively show that green tea and exercise together have a beneficial effect in humans," he said.

Experts say there is intense debate about the effects of the drink - with some university studies showing clear benefits but other research being much less conclusive.

The website verywellhealth said three cups a day of the tea could actually help reduce the risk of getting arthritis.

The health website Healthline advises people to check with their doctors, but says the drink can for many people have general health benefits.

The drink itself is full of polyphenols.

These little things are a type of antioxidant that can reduce inflammation.

They can also slow the rate of cartilage damage.

The Arthritis Foundation says polyphenols have strong anti-inflammatory properties - which is a good thing.

The drink is known for helping people lose weight - and this can also be beneficial to those with arthritis.

Why? That's because it releases pressure from the joints.

There isn't a cure for the condition but there are ways to help improve your condition and CoventryLive reported on another way recently.

Is tea the South’s next lucrative crop? These family farms have mastered the centuries-old art – Clarion Ledger

In central Mississippi, outside the town of Brookhaven, a field is lined with long rows of precisely squared-off shrubs, which look more like misplaced landscaping than a crop. These are tea plants, or Camellia sinensis, a cousin of the camellias that blossoms in yards across the South.

Jason McDonald knew nothing about tea, or even much about farming, when he was casting about for a crop to plant on this land he inherited from his grandfather. After a visit to the Charleston Tea Plantation, for many years one of Americas only commercial tea farms, McDonald decided to give it a try. (In 2020, plantation was dropped and the name was changed to the Charleston Tea Garden.) With his husbandTimothy Gipson, in 2012 he founded the Great Mississippi Tea Company.

The first couple of years, we were the village idiots, McDonald said. Now that were making money, people are asking, Whats going on here?

A single acre of Camellia sinensis in one yearcan producea ton of finishedtea. McDonald and Gipson currently farm 1.25 acres of tea plants. Another 7 acres will soon be ready to harvest. But growing Camellia sinensis only gets you halfway to a cup of tea. The pair had to master the process withering, rolling, baking and drying that turns the leaves into black, green, yellow and oolong teas.

Kyle Stewart sells Great Mississippis teas at his shop The Cultured Cup in Dallas, Texas. He said the flavor of sweet potatoes with a hint of honey makes the Great Mississippis Black Magnolia tea stand out. He ranks McDonald and Gipsons teas as equal to the best from Asia.

Tea was first planted in the United States at the start of the 19th century by French botanist Andr Michaux outside Charleston, South Carolina. Since then, America has never had more than a handful of commercial tea farms. In the last decade, however, the number of farms has steadily grown, climbing for the first time into the double digits. And most of those tea farms are in the South, like Fleur de Lis Tea in Louisiana, Hyatt Tea Co. in Alabama, Pearl River Tea Companyin Mississippi and Table Rock Tea Company in South Carolina.

I would say the South and the Pacific Northwest are better suited for tea growth. They like a humid climate and consistent rainfall, said Guihong Bi, a professor in Mississippi State Universitys Department of Plant and Soil Sciences.

The plant also needs acidic soil, good drainage and temperatures between 65 and 85 degrees, although it can withstand heat above 100 degrees, Bi said.

For the first few years, tea plants are delicate. They need irrigation, which can be costly. Eventually, though, their roots will reach six feet into the ground.

The tea plants cannot be harvested until they are about five years old. Great Mississippi estimates that over those five years, when the tea plants generated no income, it spent $100,000 per acre, with the biggest cost being the plants. Once established, though, the plants can produce tea for more than a century.

Theres a big upfront cost, but if you can survive that its basically a money printing machine, Gipson said.

Great Mississippi will harvest tea from April to October. When new shoots rise about the table-flat shrubs, they are plucked. Green tea uses the bud and the first two leaves. Most black tea uses the same, although Great Mississippi includes the third leaf in its black tea. An oolong tea might use the bud and up to the sixth leaf.

After being plucked, the tea is withered, or spread out so the leaves lose moisture and become pliable. Black and oolong teas are rolled, rupturing the cell walls and creating oxidation that darkens the leaves. Shaqing (literally killing the green) stops oxidation through steaming, baking, sun drying or tossing the leaves in a wok.

Each step changes the flavors of the finished tea. Mastering that process is an art.

In the 1960s, Lipton created experimental tea farms in Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and onWadmalaw Island in South Carolina. Lipton, however, abandoned the idea of growing U.S. tea in the late 1980s, and the company sold the Wadmalaw Island farm to Mack Fleming, the farms final manager, and Bill Hall, a third-generation tea taster from the U.K. The pair launched the Charleston Tea Plantation with big plans for their American Classic brand.

After more than three decades growing tea, Hall looked skeptically at the new farms that have launched in recent years.

Im all behind these people that are trying, but theres so much involved, he said. So I dont see it taking off.

For a time, the American Classics brand was sold on the shelves of Walmart and Whole Foods. Hall and Flemming, who died in 2018, even exported tea to Japan. By 2010, though, the farm had given up on grocery stores.

Supermarket chains are notorious for beating you down in price, Hall said.

The farm, owned since 2003 by Bigelowwith Hall as a partner, now sells its tea online, to gift shops and directly to its six million annual visitors.

No one today believes that American tea can compete with China, Kenya, India or Sri Lanka at making the low-priced, commodity produce that fills tea bags. But at this moment, more and more customers are willing to pay a premium for higher quality food.

It seems that a number of major shifts in consumer preferences have all kind of lined up in our favor. The local food movement, the Slow Food movement, the clean food movement, said Thomas Steinwinder of Longleaf Tea Company. In 2018 he and his wife, Hillary, planted 1,200 tea plants on land outside of Laurel, Mississippi that has been in her family for five generations.

Steinwinder also sees a potential for agrotourism, particularly since Laurel has become a popular destination thanks to the locally shot HGTV home renovation series Home Town.

More Americans are also drinking tea, drawn by the drinks perceived health benefits and its range of flavors. From 1990 to 2019,the American tea market has grown from $1.84 billion to $12.67 billion,according to an estimate from the Tea Association of the U.S.A.

Theres a lot of young people that are interested in tea, and it goes all the way from the blue-haired old ladies to the blue-haired young, said Donald van de Werken of Pearl River Tea Company in Poplarville, Mississippi.

Van de Werken and his husband, Jeffrey Brown, started growing blueberries in 2004. They wanted a second crop and by chance learned that Lipton once had an experimental tea farm nearby. Now, they produce 1,500 pounds of tea a year, selling it mainly at markets like the Crescent City Farmers Market in New Orleans.

Tea farming also appeals to people who want to leave a mark on the South. Steve Lorch founded Table Rock Tea Companywith his wife, Jennifer, on land in South Carolina they bought in 2008. Lorch has been encouraging nearby farmers and neighbors to also grow tea, which he will buy and process.

Our goal here is to make this area like Napa Valley is for wine, he said. We would like this to be known as tea country.

Planting a crop that can flourish for a century has made Lorch think about the future.

I just turned 50, but were already looking at whos going to buy the farm. Who are we going to hand this off to? Lorch said.

Lorch has studied the history of tea farming in the South. He knows how many farms failed and were abandoned. He wants this chapter of Southern tea farming to have a different ending.

How to prepare: Boil dried or fresh flowers in water. It can be served hot or cold but with stevia.

Pink Tea A garden is not a garden without a rose. Rose has been popular for its pleasant looks and fragrance. But its tea is both great to look at in the cup and is intensely aromatic.

How to prepare: Rose tea can be made from the fragrant petals and buds of the rose flower. Some teas are made of buds alone and some of petals. These are boiled in water and served hot. Some people prefer to add milk and brew it with the regular tea leaves too. It is best served with sugar, but the health-conscious can use honey or stevia.

The Best and Worst Foods to Eat When You Have Fibroids – Livestrong

Uterine fibroids can cause severe pain and discomfort for many people. Food certainly isn't the only factor that contributes to fibroids, but experts say it does play a part in the condition.

"While we don't fully understand the causes of fibroids, studies have shown that dietary patterns and foods may be associated with higher or lower risk for developing fibroids," says Melissa Groves, RD, LD, an integrative and functional medicine dietitian specializing in women's health and hormones, and the founder of The Hormone Dietitian.

Fibroids, also known as myomas or leiomyomas, are uterine tumors made of smooth muscle and connective tissue, per UCLA Health. While the word "tumors" may sound terrifying, fibroids are typically benign. In fact, it's estimated that up to 80 percent of all people with uteruses will develop fibroids at some point in their lives, with African Americans being three to four times more likely to have fibroids than other groups, according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine.

Fibroids also become more common with age up until menopause, when myomas rarely develop or tend to shrink if they're already present.

While some people never even realize they have fibroids, others have painful symptoms, including heavy or elongated periods, pelvic pain, increased urination, constipation and backaches, per the Mayo Clinic.

"Staying at a healthy weight by eating a balanced diet that includes plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables, lean proteins and healthy fats can be helpful to decrease or prevent fibroid growth."

Diet choices alone can't prevent or treat fibroids, but research suggests the foods we eat may influence fibroid risk and growth.

"Elevated levels of hormones like estrogen may make you more likely to get fibroids," says Cory Ruth, RD, a registered dietitian who specializes in PCOS and hormone imbalance, and founder of The Women's Dietitian.

How does that relate to our diet? "Fat cells make more estrogen, which can increase your risk for fibroids or make them worse," Ruth explains. "Staying at a healthy weight by eating a balanced diet that includes plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables, lean proteins and healthy fats can be helpful to decrease or prevent fibroid growth."

In other words, instead of following a low-estrogen diet specifically, aim to eat a variety of whole foods that support your overall health.

No single food will cure your fibroids, but certain nutrients are associated with improvements in symptoms and a reduction in myoma growth. Read on for five foods that may help shrink your fibroids naturally.

Eggs are a good choice when you have fibroids because they're rich in vitamin D.

As if we needed another reason to love vitamin D. Too-low levels of the fat-soluble vitamin are associated with an increased risk of fibroids, per a July 2018 review in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences.

Vitamin D likely affects fibroid risk and growth thanks to its role in gene expression. That is, by stopping certain cells from multiplying, the vitamin can block the growth of myomas. But vitamin D levels must be sufficient in order for this to work. That may be part of the reason why studies have repeatedly found that people with uterine fibroids (UF) have lower levels of vitamin D compared to people without UFs.

Vitamin D isn't the easiest nutrient to find in your diet, but the following foods are good sources:

Ruth recommends prioritizing seafood if you're looking to add more D to your diet: "Aim for three to four servings per week of fatty fish like salmon, herring, tuna and mackerel for maximum omega-3 benefits. If you're not enjoying these types of fish that often, you can take a supplement with at least 500 milligrams of EPA and DHA."

There's no research on how long it may take flaxseeds to shrink fibroids, but it's worth making these seeds a staple in your diet to reap the long-term health benefits.

Fibroids or not, we should all befriend flaxseeds. Not only do they deliver plant-based omega-3s (also known as ALA), but flaxseeds are also a great source of fiber, which is important for people with fibroids, especially if they struggle with constipation.

Why? When we're constipated there's more time for estrogen to become reactivated in and reabsorbed from the gut, Groves explains, potentially resulting in elevated levels of estrogen in the body a risk factor for uterine fibroid development. It makes sense, then, that "studies have shown that a diet high in fiber has been linked to lower estrogen levels," Groves says.

Flaxseeds also contain compounds called lignans that act as phytoestrogens, per the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. When eaten in moderation, phytoestrogens may modestly block the effects of excess, true estrogen in the body, hindering its ability to promote fibroid growth.

Always opt for ground flaxseeds unless you're blending them into a smoothie. The whole seeds are tough for the body to break down, but grinding them helps us better digest them and reap their health benefits.

What About Soy?

You may have heard that phytoestrogens are a no-no for womens hormones. But soy can actually serve as an "anti-estrogen," per a February 2021 review in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health. In other words, just like flax, soy can help dampen the effects of true estrogen in the body.

Also good to know: Soy contains phytoestrogens that are very different from xenoestrogens [found in plastics and pesticides], which may be harmful to both our hormones and overall health, Ruth explains. Research demonstrates that soy is fairly neutral and even has protective benefits against certain cancers. [People with fibroids] can absolutely enjoy whole, unprocessed soy products in moderation.

Talk to your doctor about a safe level of soy intake for you if you have a personal or family history of estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer.

All fruits may help shrink fibroids, but citrus is an especially smart choice.

While eating plenty of produce is recommended for those with fibroids, research suggests citrus fruits like grapefruit and oranges are among the most important plants for myoma prevention.

People who ate three or more servings of citrus per week were significantly less likely to have UFs compared to people who ate citrus less than once a month, according to a December 2011 study from The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

"Anything that supports gut health is going to support healthy hormones by default," Groves tells That's because bacteria in the gut (sometimes referred to as the "estrobolome") are involved in the detoxification and elimination of excess estrogens, per research from the journal Maturitas.

Groves recommends combining probiotics found in fermented foods with prebiotics, the fibers that feed our good gut bacteria.

What About Green Tea?

A small August 2013 study from the International Journal of Women's Health reported that daily supplementation with green tea extract significantly reduced the size of study participants' uterine fibroids. But of course, taking green tea extract in supplement form isn't the same as drinking a cup of green tea. Not only are supplements unregulated, but their contents are much more concentrated than whole foods (or in this case, drinks). It's always a good idea to talk to your doctor before starting any new supplements.

It's also worth noting that although some other teas are marketed as "fibroid-shrinking teas," there's no research to support drinking tea as a way to manage fibroids.

Bananas are rich in potassium and support good gut health, both of which may help with fibroids.

People with fibroids are more likely to also have high blood pressure, or hypertension, according to early (but still cited) research in the Journal of Reproductive Medicine. Friendly reminder: A high-potassium diet is helpful for driving down blood pressure because it counteracts the effects of sodium in the body.

What About Celery Juice?

Some people claim that celery juice can shrink fibroids. While the drink does contain some potassium and other vitamins and minerals, it's not especially high in the nutrient, and there's no evidence connecting celery juice to a lower risk of fibroids.

We may not know for sure which foods cause fibroids to grow, but based on research, people with fibroids are better off limiting the following:

Eating a lot of animal proteins like beef, pork and lamb may raise your risk of developing fibroids, per research in Obstetrics & Gynecology. (The study is from 1999, but it's still cited often.) It's important to note, though, that this research only found an association it didn't establish a cause-and-effect relationship between meat and fibroids.

That said, it's a good idea to practice moderation with red and processed meats. "You don't need to avoid these proteins completely," Ruth says. "Opt for three to four servings per week."

Turn to other nutrient-dense sources of protein like fatty fish, nuts and potassium-rich beans to fill in any gaps.

A serving size of red meat is 3 to 4 ounces, or about the size of a deck of cards.

Sad but true: Alcohol is a hormone disruptor, meaning it can exacerbate estrogen imbalances in the body.

How? "Since alcohol is a toxin, the liver prioritizes detoxing that toxin over any of its usual jobs, such as metabolizing hormones, balancing blood sugar and eliminating other toxins," Groves says. What's more: "A higher consumption of alcohol has been linked to fibroid development and fibroid pain." Ouch.

If banning booze altogether is out of the question, focus on reducing how much you drink.

"Up to one alcoholic beverage a day is considered 'moderate drinking,'" Groves says. "Some people may find that even one serving a day worsens pain [associated with fibroids], so listen to your body and tune in to how you feel after a drink."

What About Caffeine?

No research has conclusively shown that coffee or caffeine increases the risk of fibroids or causes fibroids to grow.

"Research on dairy and fibroids is conflicting," Ruth admits. While some point to dairy products as solid sources of potassium and protein, others highlight the fact that modern cow's milk contains high levels of estrogen, which is less than ideal for those with uterine fibroids.

"To err on the side of caution, it may be wise to enjoy dairy products in moderation and opt for low-fat products," Ruth says.

Because endocrine-disrupting chemicals can accumulate in animal fat, a full-fat milk or yogurt may be more harmful than a lower-fat alternative. That said, more research is needed before we can declare a 'yay' or 'nay' on dairy for those with fibroids.

Eating certain foods won't heal your fibroids, but following hormone-healthy dietary patterns may help reduce your risk of myomas and their growth.

"The best foods to consume for fibroids are those that are high in fiber, like fruits, vegetables and whole grains; anti-inflammatory foods like fatty fish, nuts and seeds; and fermented foods, like yogurt and kefir," Groves says. "It's also a good idea to eat foods that are supportive of liver health to support estrogen metabolism, like cruciferous vegetables, citrus, berries, flaxseed and artichokes."

Avoiding inflammatory foods like those with excess added sugars, alcohol, processed meats, refined carbohydrates and vegetable oils high in pro-inflammatory omega-6 fatty acids is also encouraged.

The beginning of a new year gives us a chance to think about new changes and habits that we need to adopt, so that we can have a successful, healthy year.

In the realm of nutrition there are various foods that have been preserved since ancient times and have been part of our tradition for hundreds and even thousands of years.

Its amazing how recently researchers have proven that some traditional foods also contain many nutritional benefits. Perhaps this is why they have always been part of our culture and traditions. What are the six traditional foods that science has proven to have an important part in keeping us healthy? What is recommended to eat daily during this new year? Here are the answers.

Green tea is a popular drink that is part of the tradition of many peoples and originated in the Far East. Sources claim that drinking green tea in China began 4,000 years ago and continued through thousands of years due to its many health benefits. The uniqueness of green tea is that when processed, the tea leaves dont undergo the oxidation process (like black tea), but are dried while still green. This makes green tea healthy, since oxidation takes away healthy properties of black tea.

Recently, science has shown great interest in green tea and discovered that it can prevent cardiovascular disease, balance blood sugar in diabetics, lower blood pressure, prevent and treat anxiety and mental stress and even treat or prevent various types of cancer.

One reason that science has investigated the connection between green tea and various diseases is the high content of antioxidants - the two known are EGCG and EGC.

An article published in the scientific journal BioMed Research International in 2018 found that consumption of these two components helps the body not only cope better with diseases and infections, but also prevents them

So how much is it recommended to drink? Based on studies, a large portion of the health benefits of tea come when consuming three cups of green tea a day. Since the recommendation for drinking water is 8-10 cups a day, three cups of green tea should be on your daily drinks list.

Pomegranates have a place of honor in Jewish traditions and are mentioned in several places in Jewish biblical literature.

Various sources state that the pomegranate was eaten in ancient times and was a remedy and preventive agency for various diseases. According to different documents it was used to treat parasites and worms, and was attributed many important medicinal properties.

Science, too, has begun in recent decades to discover the health benefits of pomegranate and its important properties for the prevention and treatment of diseases.

An article published in 2019 in the scientific journal Current Pharmaceutical Design examined existing studies on the link between pomegranate and various diseases or other health problems. The results of the study showed that pomegranate juice and extracts obtained from various parts of the pomegranate, including the peel and seeds, have proven health benefits such as diabetes prevention, lowering the risk of cardiovascular disease (directly affecting cholesterol), balancing blood pressure, an antimicrobial effect and preventing the growth of cancerous tumors.

For many years honey was said to have medicinal properties of healing and disinfection of wounds and cuts (honey is a sterile compound). The polyphenols, which are chemical compounds of the "flavonoid" type found in honey, are the natural compounds that are the main source of the medicinal properties of honey. The source of flavonoids is pollen. Honey also has antimicrobial properties that have the ability to kill pathogens and stop the growth of bacteria, fungi, viruses and other one-cell organisms.

These properties are due to a number of factors found in honey: high concentration of sugars, acidic pH (3.9-3.5) and accumulation of H2O2 due to enzymatic activity. Its important to know that the medicinal properties of honey are destroyed at a temperature of over 40 degrees Celsius, so its recommended to consume honey in its fresh form in order to enjoy all its health benefits. Dont cook it-honey cake wont give you the same benefits!

Olive oil is one of the most well-known and important foods since ancient times. It was an integral part of daily life among many countries in the Mediterranean region and especially in Israel, and is therefore mentioned and integrated into many stories as far back as the Bible and of course is an integral part of the stories of the "heroes of the Maccabees.

One of the most notable health benefits of olive oil - a key ingredient in the "Mediterranean diet" that has been proven for years in studies as a healthy diet that protects the body from many types of diseases - is the high content of essential fatty acids contained within it. Its a monounsaturated acid of the oleic acid type, and there are healthy amounts of polyunsaturated fatty acid of the linoleic acid type.

In addition, olive oil contains vitamin E, which is considered a very important antioxidant in nutrition and body health. Another health benefit of olive oil is the high content of polyphenols known for their strong health benefits, antioxidants and anti-inflammatories. It protects the heart and can be a crucial ingredient in treating various types of cancer. Based on studies, regular use of olive oil in the diet can significantly reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, lower cholesterol, protect against free radicals, and maintain the health of body cells and skin.

When speaking about foods that are an integral part of the "tradition," its impossible to ignore the importance of wine in Judaism. The source of wine is from the grapes that undergo fermentation and form the alcohol. Hence the nutritional benefits of wine come directly from the grapes. Two particularly important chemicals found in grapes are the polyphenols and anthocyanins (pigment in purple grapes) which have strong antioxidant properties.

Studies show that wine has many significant health benefits: it can slow down the aging process and help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, especially due to the direct effect on LDL cholesterol which is considered the "bad cholesterol" that causes blood vessel narrowing.

In addition, the natural chemicals in wine have a beneficial effect on the endothelial function around the blood vessels, reducing blood pressure and preventing the formation of blood clots (affecting platelet aggregation), reducing inflammation. Also, some studies discuss the connection between wine and slowing down the aging process of the brain.

One of the important substances found in wine and of paramount importance in the health context is resveratrol, which is a polyphenol found in the skin of the grape. According to studies, its especially important in the context of preventing various types of cancer, neutralizing the activity of free radicals in the body and preventing inflammation.

The date palm is without a doubt one of the most delicious and healthiest foods that has been with us since ancient times and is an integral part of Jewish tradition. Its no coincidence that its mentioned 42 times in the Bible. The date was also known and famous in ancient Rome and Greece.

Nutritionally, dates contain mostly carbohydrates, little protein and less fat. They contain dietary fiber and essential minerals: potassium, magnesium and calcium.
